When our company launched during Thanksgiving 2014, we issued a challenge asking customers to share a photo from our Facebook wall. For each share, we donated one meal to the hungry.
Since 1990, there are 216 million less undernourished people in the world, around one in nine according to the latest edition of the annual UN hunger report. Ideally that number would be zero in nine are still hungry, but we’re making great strides to get to that point. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has again set a high bar, to again half the prevalence of undernourishment by 2015. ”The near-achievement of the MDG hunger targets shows us that we can indeed eliminate the scourge of hunger in our lifetime. We must be the Zero Hunger generation. That goal should be mainstreamed into all policy interventions and at the heart of the new sustainable development agenda to be established this year,” said FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva.
We encourage you to look at the interactive map on the FAO website to see the effects hunger has by country and to learn more about the goals to bring this problem to an end for every country, including our own.
I Thought of You is excited to help work towards a solution to this problem that can be eliminated within our lifetimes. The advancements in economic growth, agricultural practices, and social protection are all moving in the right direction. Help us keep the conversation going.
